Most of you probably know that the skin is the largest organ of the body and the body is constantly eliminating waste through a complex network of organs and actions. It’s natural. But what happens when there’s too much toxic buildup? The system becomes overloaded and nothing gets moved out, leaving you sick and tired. Think of your body like a bathtub, When you fill up your tub "body" with water, food, personal care products, alcohol, cigarettes, etc the toxins it can only hold so much and the toxins have to go somewhere. Guess where they end up? If you guessed your organs you are correct! This is where inflammation occurs. When your body is inflamed it may cause arthritis, migraines, digestive issues skin rashes or acne, and worse chronic illness or cancer.
It;s my job to teach you how to read labels on both your personal care products and your food so you eliminate as many toxic ingredients as possible to prevent chronic illness, We all want to live a healthy life, free from medications and we can if we treat food as our medicine.

If you are like most people, once the cold weather begins and the holidays approach, you start indulging in comfort food, processed foods and sweets. Did you know that the average person gains 7-10 lbs. just between Thanksgiving and Christmas? It’s no wonder that 1.5 million people are diagnosed with prediabetes (obesity) and diabetes each year.
Well, if you don’t want to be one of those statistics, take control and get a jump start with these tips to avoid the extra pounds.
Let’s face it, it’s easy to hide that muffin top in bulky sweaters and coats, but learning how to read labels and ingredients and making better choices will help you stay young, feel better and look good for a long time. You will have more energy, fit in your clothes with ease, sleep better and your skin will benefit as well. Are you hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas this year? Have you thought about your Christmas list and even started shopping yet? I am not a procrastinator, but I definitely have not even put a dent in my shopping. Yes, I have bought a couple things. But don't have a clue on what to buy everyone. I have tried not to pressure myself on buying a gift for everyone in my life; I get a few things for my close friends and family, send a few cards and enjoy the festivities. Putting excess stress on yourself defeats the purpose of enjoying the Holidays and causes your cortisol to rise. When your cortisol levels are increased, your body holds on to toxins,; you can't shed the excess weight, even though you are eating healthy and exercising, you may not be able to sleep although you may feel tired, and your skin may be breaking out. There are so many ways of distressing. Take up yoga. Meditation and breathing exercises are a great way to free your brain of clutter. When you breathe deep, oxygen helps to get into your brain, so you can relax and release those unwanted toxins. Certain essential oils and teas will also help. Try Arbonne's lavender oil or detox herbal tea before you go to bed and just chill! This summer flew by, didn't it? Schools are back in session and the buses are on their schedules. This is the time I avoid being on the road so I don't get stuck behind one.
Both my stepdaughters are at the same college; one in her last year and the other in her first. I am so happy they are near one another and are able to share their experiences. Now that we are empty nesters, I am keeping busy with both my businesses, maintaining our home, my routine at the gym and volunteering. I try to keep a balanced life and my stress levels low. I have learned not to sweat the small stuff, take each day as it comes and be grateful for what I have. Investing in myself with reading, learning and personal growth is important to me for my success. However, I do love being around people, so when I can meet a friend for coffee or lunch, or meet a new friend, that makes me happy! Everyone is so busy at this time of year and it will only get busier as we near the holidays; so take time for yourself & enjoy the little things! Best of Health, Donna Well I am trying something new, thinking outside the box.........blogging.
It's the beginning of August, and even though we have had a lot of rain and a hot summer, I wanted to share my experience and knowledge on sun care. I have a fair complexion for being Armenian, and always envious of my Armenian friends who were darker than able to tan. I just burn. As a kid, I would lay out on the beach with Coppertone while my mother yelled for me to put a shirt on. How uncool does that look? Well how uncool is it when you have blisters all over your nose and chest? I would suffer with burning skin, as my mom would spread yogurt on my body just to take the sting out. I am a big proponent on proper sunscreen now. Wearing daily sunscreen is imperative for EVERYONE! The sun does not discriminate; and 60% of the rays are out even if it's raining. You also get most of your damage before you are 20 yrs old. and the damage is cumulative. Working for a dermatologist, I saw too many skin cancers that could have been avoided. And yes, you have to be using a safe sunblock or sunscreen. In order to protect against UVA (aging rays) and UVB (burning rays) you need to use at least 1 ounce of a broad spectrum sunscreen of 30 SPF, all over the exposed areas of your body. If you are going to be outside, apply it 30 min. before you leave the house and re apply every 90 min. Wearing a hat & sunglasses will also protect your scalp and eyes. If you would like a recommendation on the sunscreen I now use, send me a comment. Thanks for reading! Donna |
